Aura Business generates the e-way bill from the invoice or delivery challan the consignment is travelling against, records the transporter and vehicle, and keeps the bill linked to the despatch so the office knows what the driver is carrying.

The e-way bill is the document that accompanies goods in transit under GST. It is generated before the movement starts, and it ties together the consignment, the value, the parties, the route and the vehicle. If your goods are stopped on the road, it is what is produced along with the invoice or challan the consignment travels against.
Whether a particular movement needs one depends on the value of the consignment, whether it crosses a state border and on state-level rules that are not identical everywhere. We do not publish those figures, because the only figure worth acting on is the current one for the states you move goods between. Confirm the position with your accountant. What Aura Business does is generate the bill from the despatch record you already created, in the E-Way Bill module of the Quotation, Orders and GST Billing suite.
It is a document about a physical movement, created by somebody sitting at a desk who cannot see the vehicle.
The consignment departs and the bill is generated later, which is exactly the wrong order.
The invoice exists in one system and the bill is keyed again elsewhere, with room for mismatch.
The despatch team knows the vehicle and the accounts team generates the bill, so the two do not meet.
Nobody can tell which invoice or challan a given bill belongs to without searching.
An order goes in two vehicles on two days and the documentation is built for one.
The consignment moves with an invoice that does not match the bill generated for it.
The consignment travels against a tax invoice, or a delivery challan where the sale is not complete.
Items, quantities, value and both addresses come from that document.
Transporter details and the vehicle number recorded at the point of loading.
The e-way bill is raised and stored against the despatch.
The driver leaves with the invoice or challan and the e-way bill reference for the consignment.
If the consignment is transhipped, the vehicle detail is updated against the same bill.
Delivery is confirmed with signature and photo, and the despatch record holds all of it.
Workflow: The invoice is raised with IGST, the e-way bill is generated against it with the vehicle number, and both go with the driver.
Result: Nothing is waiting to be created after departure.
Workflow: An evaluation unit moves on a returnable delivery challan, with the e-way bill generated against that challan rather than an invoice.
Result: The movement is documented without pretending a sale happened.
Workflow: Stock moving from the main godown to a branch is despatched on a transfer with its own documentation.
Result: In-transit stock is visible and legally documented.
Workflow: The consignment is transhipped en route and the vehicle detail is updated against the existing bill.
Result: The documents and the truck still agree.

It depends on the consignment value, whether the movement crosses a state border, and state-level rules that differ. We do not publish the figures because they change. Confirm the current position for your routes with your accountant.
Yes. Goods that move before a sale is complete, such as demo units or items going for repair, travel against a challan, and the e-way bill is generated from that document. See delivery challan software.
The document the consignment travels against, which is the tax invoice or the delivery challan, together with the e-way bill reference for that consignment. Both are produced from the same despatch record.
The vehicle detail can be updated against the existing bill when the consignment is transhipped, so the documentation continues to match the vehicle actually carrying the goods.
Yes. A movement between your own locations is still a movement and is despatched on a documented transfer. See warehouse management.
They are separate requirements that share data. Where an invoice is registered, the same record is used to raise the bill, so nothing is entered twice. See e-invoice software.
